Applying planetary mapping methods to submarine environments: onshore-offshore geomorphology of Christiana-Santorini-Kolumbo Volcanic Group, Greece

چکیده
Geologic maps are foundational products for natural hazard assessments but developing them submarine areas is challenging due to a lack of physical access the study area. In response, geomorphologic used provide geologic context and spatial information on landforms related geo-hazards risk management. These generated from remotely sensed data, e.g. digital elevation models (DEMs), which introduce unique hurdles mapping. To address this issue, we produced workflow applying planetary mapping methods data. Using this, created an onshore-offshore map Christiana-Santorini-Kolumbo Volcanic Group, Greece. This product can be enhance Santorini, tourist hot-spot at high volcanically- seismically-induced hazards. We present as tool generating uniform that will aid environments.

Breathing modes of Kolumbo submarine volcano (Santorini, Greece)
Submarine volcanoes, such as Kolumbo (Santorini, Greece) are natural laboratories for fostering multidisciplinary studies. Their investigation requires the most innovative marine technology together with advanced data analysis. Conductivity and temperature of seawater were recorded directly above Kolumbo's hydrothermal vent system. The respective time series have been analyzed in terms of non-e...
متن کاملA distinct source and differentiation history for Kolumbo submarine volcano, Santorini volcanic field, Aegean arc
This study reports the first detailed geochemical characterization of Kolumbo submarine volcano in order to investigate the role of source heterogeneity in controlling geochemical variability within the Santorini volcanic field in the central Aegean arc. Kolumbo, situated 15 km to the northeast of Santorini, last erupted in 1650 AD and is thus closely associated with the Santorini volcanic syst...
متن کاملNew insights into hydrothermal vent processes in the unique shallow-submarine arc-volcano, Kolumbo (Santorini), Greece
We report on integrated geomorphological, mineralogical, geochemical and biological investigations of the hydrothermal vent field located on the floor of the density-stratified acidic (pH ~ 5) crater of the Kolumbo shallow-submarine arc-volcano, near Santorini. Kolumbo features rare geodynamic setting at convergent boundaries, where arc-volcanism and seafloor hydrothermal activity are occurring...
متن کاملKolumbo submarine volcano (Greece): An active window into the Aegean subduction system
Submarine volcanism represents ~80% of the volcanic activity on Earth and is an important source of mantle-derived gases. These gases are of basic importance for the comprehension of mantle characteristics in areas where subaerial volcanism is missing or strongly modified by the presence of crustal/atmospheric components. Though, the study of submarine volcanism remains a challenge due to their...
متن کاملRip Currents Onshore Submarine Canyons
The long-term goals of this research are to understand the dynamics of rip currents generated by largescale variations in alongshore pressure gradients and wave forcing, and the impact of rip currents on nearshore bathymetry. These goals will be accomplished collaboratively using field observations and numerical models, and will be pursued as part of the Nearshore Canyon Experiment (NCEX) sched...
